Welcome back!

There seems to have been a bigger gap than ever in our regular congregations this summer. One Sunday in August saw the lowest number of people in church on a Sunday, on record. More people go away in the summer than ever before (no doubt swelling the congregations of churches in holiday resorts!) So, welcome back if you have been away. It’s good to be back together again and to get back to normal in our parish community.
It is obvious from our schools’ records that there is a trend of people, especially young families, moving out of Ealing for various reasons. Several families from our parish are moving away to other parts of the country. We shall be sad to lose them and wish them well for their new home in the future.

The Choir

Singing and music is a very important part of Christian worship and our church has rich tradition of church music. We are very fortunate in having a parish choir to lead our worship at 10.30 am and 6.30 pm on Sundays. We have a wide range of church music from Gregorian chant to hymns and settings and to more recent composition for choir and congregation to sing together. However, we need more people to join the choir and to make it stronger. Our Director of Music, Ursula Brett, is a very accomplished and experienced church musician who can teach any one to sing, adults as well as children. We particularly need young adults. Please have a word with Ursula after one of the services.

Helping at 10.30 am and 5.30 pm on Sundays..

We need more people to read the lessons (the first two readings), to lead the intercessions (the prayers), to welcome people and give out the books (to both regulars and to visitors), to take the collection (leaving no stone unturned!), to bring up the Gifts (the Bread and Wine) to the altar and to run the coffee bar after the 10.30 am mass (important for binding us together as a church family). We also need to organise some of these tasks at the 5.30 pm mass. They are not difficult and are ways of serving God that are accessible to men, women and children alike. If you feel that you can do one or more of them please see Ann Sherren or one of the priests. People participating in the conduct of the liturgy is a sign of a lively and active church community.

Confirmation 07

Have you been confirmed? Confirmation is the next sacrament after Baptism and gateway to full membership of the Church. An adult affirms for him or herself the promises made by Godparents at Baptism. It is an adult confession of faith and an act of witness that a person is prepared to stand up and be counted as a believer. Once you are confirmed you become a communicant, receiving the Bread and Wine of the altar each Sunday. You are baptized by a priest but confirmed by a bishop (by anointing and the laying on of hands), normally the local bishop. We shall be starting an adult preparation group fairly soon. If you haven’t been confirmed please consider it very carefully and don’t afraid to come forward. There is no upper age limit.
The will also be a preparation programme for children (who must be 11 in the year of the Confirmation).

The church must be cleaned!

The church is open and used every day and gets very dirty and untidy every quickly. Like our houses it needs a lot of regular cleaning. We need more people to clean – dusting, polishing, cobwebbing, removing wax, washing the floors and tidying. We normally have a cleaning party on Saturday morning after the mass at 9.00 am, so that the church is in good condition for Sunday, but people can come at other times if that is more convenient. A clean church is a sign of a church that is loved and cared for by its parishioners. Please join us.
